United SportsCar Championship drops Indy from 2015 calendar

    What American racing series would be complete without a stop at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway? One of America's meccas of motorsport, the track known as the Brickyard hosts IndyCars (two races this season, in fact), NASCAR, even MotoGP. It's hosted Formula One, IROC and Grand-Am. But soon the United SportsCar Championship will switch from the category of series that currently compete at Indy to the ones that used to.

    While the USC had shared the Super Weekend at the Brickyard together with NASCAR this year, the logistics of switching the track mid-weekend from the road course to the speedway setup proved too taxing for racetrack personnel. As a result, the series and the track have canceled their engagement for next year.

    In its place, the USC will race at Lime Rock in Connecticut, but will leave the Prototypes out of it, just as it will with the August race at Virginia International Raceway. The calendar (posted below) starts at Daytona before heading to Sebring, Long Beach, Laguna Seca, Detroit, Watkins Glen, Mosport, Lime Rock, Road America, VIR and Austin before closing out the season with the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

    Speaking with the Indianapolis Star, IMS chief Doug Boles said that the door was open for the USC to return to Indy the following year, and we certainly hope it does.Continue reading United SportsCar Championship drops Indy from 2015 calendar
