The Garage Geeks Weekly Meet Thread

Was there last night, honestly was thinking it would be better, reminded me of the MNSC weekly meets they use to have where it seemed very clicky. Not saying that was the case, but considering it was my first one, and really didn't know anyone and people were in their own little groups I didn't really stay long, my son and I had some food at Sonics then took off.

 

It is clique-y. Not as much as other meets though.

 

I'm guessing you drove the rsx type-s? I saw your car --looked real nice. I saw you leave. Next time I'll say hello.

I remember the old MNSC meets and you're right; they were somewhat cliquey. Aside from that I enjoyed them, but they seemed to fizzle out over the years. I'm looking to make new friends that are into cars (any), so I hope these don't turn into that. It was my first meet I was able attend and I had a good time.

I'm going to try to make it every week that I'm not busy.

 

Any meet is going to feel like that, it is parking lot standing, you shouldn't expect a ton out of it. I don't really know many more people than when I first started going 3 weeks ago but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. It's just nice to relax and hang out for a few hours when you have nothing else to do on a Wednesday night. Plus eventually you will break through that barrier and get to know people it can just take time. I remember in 03 when I first joined mnsc and I didn't know anyone but eventually (mostly during the sitdown meets where everyone had dinner at the same table) I got to know every single person. I'm sure this will be exactly the same.

 

The Meets are comprised of many groups of friends, so yes there will be the groups hanging out together. We always try to go check out the vehicles we have not seen before. If the owners are around then we chat it up with them. But like with Ne0z, I have seen his car, know it is his car. But don't know what he looks like yet So haven't said "hi" yet

These meets do seem click-y, but like what Scott said, there will be a barrier during the first few meets. Other than that, the meet was pretty fun. I went around and talked to a few people about their cars. Lol at engine-powered kiddie Mustang.

 

Also, may I say, how good of a job the staff here is doing of keeping things civil and how happy I am to see the lack of bs coming from people here. Yes it is still in it's early stages so it WILL eventually happen but the way everything is being done is very fluid and when someone voices their opinion on something as I obviously do regularly it so far has always been a pretty mature response.

 

Thank you very much! We have had drama once. And if it comes back someone is going to get hurt

Basically any meet like this stands the chance of seeing drama. And since we invite people from a bunch of car clubs, I can see where differences in opinion can come about.

We just hope people remember that we are there because we like cars. We like working on them, driving them, and talking about them. We listen to everyone opinions and knowledge as long as you do the same for us

 

Should be able to make it tonight. Last one I would guess unless the weather gets better.

While we have little sunlight to enjoy and the nights are getting colder, we are being true car geeks and the meets continue. Come on now! We are from Minnesota after all
It was great to see some more members coming out, that way faces can be put to screen names.

Boy was it a cold one! The meets are ending a little sooner since everyone is freezing, but I'm proud of the turn out! Keep in mind that Sonic DOES serve hot drinks. I would suggest gloves and hats at this time of year also.

It is going to be 52 degrees tonight and a 30% chance of rain. But we will be true car geeks and make it to the meet!

This was probably the coldest night yet. But people stuck around for a good amount of time even with the cold. A few new faces came out today, it was good to talk to people we haven't talked to yet (or in a while).
