Panoz to kick off production of street-legal racecars this month

Panoz, an automaker that specializes in building endurance racers, has announced it will build you any of its machines - road car or racecar - for the street, Endurance-Info reports. That's great news for people who've always dreamed of driving a road-legal racecar, and even better news for people who can afford one of the bespoke creations.

The announcement was made in the automaker's new showroom and museum in Braselton, GA, where several important Panoz road cars and racecars, such as the Abruzzi Spirit of Le Mans and the GTR-1, are on display. "We will be producing all these cars [in the showroom and museum], on a one-off customer basis, for the street," says John A. Leverett, Panoz LLC's vice president of sales. "If you want a Panoz GTR-1 for the street, we will produce one for you. If you want a roadster, we'll make one for you." He went on to say that the cars would have new carbon/aluminum chassis, new powertrains and custom interiors.

Speaking of the roadster Leverett mentioned, we assume he means the Panoz Roadster (pictured, foreground), which was the company's first car back in 1990. It's not as well known as the Esperante and its many variants, but the little V8-powered sportscar looks more than a bit like an Ariel Atom with body cladding - and just as fun.
