this is the original post I did it from

    here's my abridged version

the best way to strip all the chrome from you emblems to prevent the paint from chipping later on down the road is to use bleach.
this is why my emblems looked like before the bleach bath
    [IMG]

now you'll want to soak your emblems in a bath of bleach for a couple of days and make sure to change the bleach out atleast once or twice a day.

you'll see the bleach get really dark, almost completly black
once it gets really dark it's time to change the bleach.

you may have to do some scrubbing to get everything off, I did.

when your emblems look like this
    [IMG]

they're almost ready for paint. make sure to clean them really well and soak them in a bath of ammonia and peroxide (50/50 mix) for a couple hours.
this will make them extra clean and all ready for paint

after a few coats of paint
    mine looked like this
    [IMG]
and after a few coats of clear coat, this is what the final product looked like

    I hope this helps!

Sorry, Facebook changed their images which broke all my links. I fixed it, better late then never haha
My emblems still look as good as the day I painted them.

I have to redo my emblems. Not sure if I'm going to try and touch them up first since they are not just one color, or just redo them completely.

What paint brand did you use?

I don't remember. Whatever was at O'Reilly's. I'd recognize it if i saw the can. I believe I also used a coat of a thing that makes paint stick to plastic better too. I also don't remember what that was but i'd recognize it and it was also at O'Reilly's. i'll look online see if i can find it

Ummmm, why does placing something that was soaked in bleach in to ammonia sound like a recipe for a bad time?

    Yea that's it!

Yea, I put ammonia and peroxide in an ice cream bucket with the emblems and just left it outside, far away.
    I advise against sniffing it.
