Was the Car Group justified by calling the police on a member who was Street Racing?

Well with this post and a few others I've been reading. I wanted to post and see what other member of MNGG think about this article and how the situation was handled, and other "issues" (one way of describing it) that we might see being in the car scene.

So sound off on the poll above, and/or leave comments. I would like to hear what you all think.

Did the guy do something wrong? Yes. Did he pay for it? Yes. Are the police required in this situation? Only if that is the sole solution to the problem, where it'll happen again if not otherwise prevented.

If he is indeed sorry and has learned his lesson, then calling the cops is just doing so to call the cops. It's like calling them on your neighbor for a noise complaint instead of calling your neighbor, or god forbid, walking over there and asking them to turn the music down. Instead of educating you're just punishing.

That said, I'm not against testing and comparing (read: not racing) on the street when done safely and within reason. That last bit however is the area in which a lot of people get in trouble, "safe" and "within reason" always get pushed to the limits by people who don't realize what they can and cannot do behind the wheel, nor what their car's limits are. Far too many people build fast cars that will never see track time, with setups that aren't entirely safe for the street (snap tendencies, brake fade, etc) and won't know it until it's too late. A tested setup with a proven driver is safe at speed, untested and unproven aren't.

That said, cruises are cruises, and accidents happen. People join the ditch club on occasion, and I'm ashamed to admit that even I myself am a member. But that doesn't mean cruises are bad, or unsafe, or dangerous to the public. One unskilled driver or unprepared car does not make the cruise as an event dangerous, only that car/driver. As long as everyone can keep themselves and their car at 50-70% of the limit there's still plenty of safety margin there.
